Freshman Year Golf Season

This year was my first year of being a college student and also a college athlete. It was stressful, it is very hard to balance good grades with golf going on at the same time. If I wasn't doing good in school it was hard for me to do good on the course and it was just stressful. Golf in high school is completely different than golf in college. In high school, you have one season and that is the fall season. In college, you have two seasons, one in the fall, and one in the spring. The exciting part about being a part of the golf team is having access to all the sports facilities and even your own golf room. During the off-season in high school, it was very hard to practice due to it being cold and just not good conditions for golf. In the golf season in college, there are 2 seasons. We would have team practice indoors which would always keep us warm and ready to get out and play whenever. This is the first time that I have practiced in a facility that is just meant for the team, a...

What Golf Bag Should I Buy?

I am going to do a little review and rundown of the golf bags that I have used and the one that I am currently using. I will give some pros and cons for each bag and tell you the best ones to buy and the best value you can get for each bag. The first golf bag on this list will be the golf bag that I used all throughout my summer years of high school. I used the Maxifli 4.0 golf bag. Maxfli is not well known for making any good golf products but this bag really surprised me. This golf bag was light, had 14 slots for all clubs, enough pockets to fit everything, and just an overall great golf bag. You can find any of their golf bags on their site for under 200 dollars and some for under 100. For the price of these bags, I would say that this is a great value golf bag. The golf bag that I used throughout my high school seasons was the Sun Mountain standing bag. I hated these bags, they were not comfortable, they felt baggy, and definitely a bag that I would not recommend. For the Price tha...

Myrtle Beach Golf

If you are ever looking for a good golf trip or just a place to go have fun with some buddies, Myrtle Beach is a great destination spot for some golf.  This year for spring break me and my golf team went to Myrtle Beach and played some prestigious courses down there. We played a total of 4 courses including The Grande Dunes, Pine Lakes Country Club, Oak Island Golf Club, and Caledonia Golf and Fish Club. These are some of the nicest courses that I have played in my life. They are all in great condition and are just spectacular and need to play courses. Caledonia Golf Club was my favorite out of the four. Caledonia is a pretty flat course with a bermudagrass base. Longer than most courses but the flatness of the course makes up for it. The scenery there was spectacular just beautiful. Pine Lakes "The Granddaddy", is the oldest golf course in all of Myrtle Beach. This is a non-bermudagrass base so it is a little easier to hit off of. Longest out of all 4 and the tightest. Reall...

Tips on Driving the Ball

I have always struggled with hitting the golf ball off the tee. Whether it doesn't go as far as I would like it to go or whether it doesn't go in the right direction. I am going to give you a couple tips on how you could increase your driving accuracy and your driving length 1. Make sure that your ball position is in the front of your stance, this is key to hitting up on the ball 2. A little trick that I was taught is lining your ball up on the tee like you do for putting, aim the side of the golf ball with the line, and aim that line towards your target 3. If you struggle with slicing the ball move your right hand just a tad under the club, if you struggle with hooking the ball move your right hand just a tad to the left. This should help get the head of your club turned to the right target position 4. Add a little shoulder tilt, drop your right should just a tad so that your left should be facing to the sky and your right shoulder is facing to the ground 5. Make sure that yo...

Is 4 majors on the PGA enough or too little?

The PGA has a total of 4 majors per year. These 4 majors include The Masters. The Open, The U.S. Open, and The PGA Championship. All of these 4 majors are the biggest golf tournaments in the entire world, but I think that we can all agree that our favorite is The Masters. The hot topic has come to arise though asking if there should be more majors. Tournaments that the PGA could make into majors include The Players, The FedEx Cup, and The Memorial. If they were to add more majors, retired PGA pros could easily lose their records for the number of Major tournaments that they have won. With them adding more majors it would be a lot easier for players to win bigger tournaments. Jack Nicklaus for example has won, 18 majors! He leads the PGA Tour record books for the most major wins in his career. Jack Nicklaus has won the Masters 6 times, The Open 3 times, The U.S. Open 4 times, and the PGA Championship 5 times. He will go down in history as one of the greatest golf players of all time if ...

Is Titleist really the number one golf brand in the world?

In my opinion, I would have to say that the two biggest golf brands are Titleist and TaylorMade. In my opinion, these two golf companies are neck and neck. With Titleist having the number one golf ball in the world... supposedly, and TaylorMade having the best equipment in the world, also supposedly. I can go on and on about both of these golf brands being better than the other. Titleist has the best golf ball, the best putters, and in my opinion the best wedges with the SM series. TaylorMade has the best woods and drivers and possibly competing for that top ball spot, and mabey coming in hot with their new wedges they are producing with the raw face technology. Ever since the TP5 and TP5X came out everybody, especially me and my friends have thought that this is extremely close between those balls and the ProV1 and ProV1X. Ever since that TaylorMade came out with the M1 and M2 series, they have had the best lineup for woods and drivers. TaylorMade has also caught my eye with thei...

P790 Irons Review, the good and the bad

The TaylorMade P790s are a great iron for high handicap players and low handicap players. These irons are the middle ground between a blade and cavity backs. They look like a blade from address but have the forgiveness and feel that you look for in a cavity back iron. I have been playing with these irons for a little over a year and they are by far my favorite irons I have ever had. You can control them very easily. They feel incredible and you can put almost the perfect amount of spin on them as much as you would like. The only downside that I would have to say about them is the speed foam that is injected into the toe and bottom groove of the club. The foam insert is to add a little extra forgiveness if you don't hit the ball too well. The thing is if you hit the ball too well, these irons come off hot. Whenever I catch these irons a little too clean they go an extra 5 or 10 yards. The pitching wedge through 8 iron I would have to say does not have this problem. This problem com...

Why you should get fitted for clubs and not buy clubs straight off the shelf

During my past couple of years playing high school golf and halfway into college golf I have been teeing off with the Cobra F9 driver. The Cobra F9 driver is one of the best drivers I have ever hit and I completely fell in love with it. I have always struggled with hitting the ball far off the tee. That is until I got fitted for the Callaway Epic LS driver. I love this thing, I got it in a 70g stiff shaft and a 9-degree head set down to 8 degrees. The problem I had with my Cobra driver was the fact that I was not getting any roll off the tee, it would just land and stop. Another big factor in the no role is the fact that I hit the ball extremely high in the air. I feel like due to the mill grind face on the cobra driver I would get no spin. I soon come to find out that I hit 7 degrees up on the ball. Not to help that I had a 60g stiff shaft and had my driver set at 10.5-degrees. When I was getting fitted the guy who had me getting fitted was just in amazement at how much a swing up on ...

BirdieBall Review, why its good and why its bad.

Today I tested out a golf innovation that has been out for a couple of years now and I've always wanted to try it. I tested out the birdieballs off of  birdieball.com  and I was pretty impressed. Birdieballs in the PGA's words is the best golf practice ball on the market. I would have to agree with that statement about how much I enjoy these. I ordered the 12 pack of birdieballs that cost around 50 dollars which is what you would pay for a top branded pack of golf balls. I also ordered the tee that comes with the birdieballs if you want to hit driver. I went out to my backyard and hit them a bunch and I had a blast hitting these practice golf balls. I did find one thing and that they are not the best to hit in the wind due to them being a hard plastic cylinder type practice ball. Birdieballs in my opinion is better to hit with irons than they are with driver or wedges. Just because irons compress the ball a little less than a driver and a little more than wedges so irons are t...
